Today we touring again, visiting Hangzhou.
Our commentary today is brief, mostly as an explainer to some of the images in the gallery below. So, very quickly: Hangzhou is the capital of Zhejiang province, situated a tad south of Shanghai.
If you’re still non the wiser we’d like to refer you back to this wonderful map of China’s provinces. Hangzhou is also listed as a “World” or “Global” city, you can learn more about those here: What is a Global City? as well as this great overview of Hangzhou: The Capital Of Zhejiang Province.
But for our purposes, Hangzhou is also locally known as China’s IT and E-com capital. A very modern, forward thinking, tech driven futurist city. It has more on line shops than the rest of China combined. (or so they say.) Home also to a huge population of IT specialists. People joke that the main language in Hangzhou is binary!
More importantly – for us, Hangzhou is the home of Alibaba. Which explains a lot about the foregoing. And hopefully all combined might help you understand the reference to CLOUDS, spaceships and other futuristic imagery in the design and decoration of the new station.
Clarification: yep, we know, our head image is actually set in Shenzhen, in Guangdong province (at the very bottom -south _ east of China) – also one of China’s hi tech cities – so we thought it fitting.
So, now you “up to speed” and in the know, we introduce, for your visual pleasure, two galleries, courtesy of Caixin Global:
