Selling Tea to China

If you have been following us or have read our “About Us” page you will know that we were originally founded as WPBeijing, a Sino British company back in 2003. Of the two partners, the Chinese side was represented by Everlyne Yu with The Bic standing in for the British. Both partners continue to drive the company today. Tea Pigs, the object of our story, is a British brand.

Now if you are British or an otherwise person of refinement and exquisitely good taste, the name Tea Pigs will need no introduction. You are excuse, and may shift to a few paragraphs along~But for those who seem doomed to sup on an inferior brown beverage, a little background is in order.

Who or what is Tea Pigs?

We could nut shell this an say that Tea Pigs is a British brand of tea bag. But that would be selling the brand woefully short and hardly doing justice to the name. Besides, it would not help you understand. Tea Pigs was born back in 2006 when 2 Brits decided that compared to the excitement and pzazz being generated around coffee, tea was very boring. With both of them clocking up many years as professional in the tea trade, they knew a thing or three.

Tea drinkers, esp in the UK seemed short changed. Did no one drink real, quality tea any more? For those who knew where to find it, and could afford it, yes, but for the masses it seemed they were destined to the boring, same old same old tea bags. Our two intrepid explorers set out to change this. Et voila, Tea Pigs. You can read a tad more on Tea Pigs about them page.

Tea Pigs broke the mould. Sure, you can still buy English Breakfast Tea or Darjeeling tea, but do you really want to drink the same thing day in day out? Tea Pigs bet no. Their range includes some really nice flavours such as Super Fruit, Lemon and Ginger, (gets the Bic plus tick) Popcorn tea and Chocolate Flake tea. Ok, we heard that! All we can say is: “don’t knock it ’till you try it.” Anyway, if none of those peak your curiosity see the full range here.

So, where is all this leading us? String this week, Alibaba is running a 3 series video  on British brands entering China. Yep, Tea Pigs is selling tea to China. Cor, talk about coals to Newcastle. And doing so very nicely thank you. So, without further ado, Alibaba presents: Selling Tea to China: In Conversation with British Sustainable Tea Brand teapigs. This ten minute video takes the form of an interview with one of the founders where she discusses the brands entry into China. Worth watching for some really good gems of practical advice if you are or are considering marketing to Chinese consumers – – even if you are just selling coffee.

Thanks for reading our China news, marketing, tech and social media article – we hope it was useful, relative, informative, valuable.
